Hansel and Gretel manage to outwit her and rescue themselves along with all the other children the witch has turned into gingerbread.
Here are Lisette Oropesa and Tara Erraught singing a duet as Hansel and Gretel in the Metropolitan Opera's version of the opera. Did you notice they're singing in English?

When I hear "Hansel and Gretel", I see gingerbread houses dancing in my head. Time for family baking time! These cookies are simple enough that you probably have all the ingredients in your pantry already. They would make a great snack while watching the opera!
