STRING ORCHESTRAS SCHEDULE

Dates, times, and prices listed are for the 2023-2024 session

Term Dates: September 5, 2023 - June 3, 2024 (inclusive)

Pre-Orchestra

(RCM 1/Suzuki Book 1-2)

Students are introduced to 2nd and 3rd positions and basic shifting. Technique includes scales and arpeggios from RCM Grade 2.

 

Repertoire focuses on a successful completion of the Bach Minuets, introductory pieces in Book 2 and multiple-part chamber music.

 

Objectives include reading and ensemble skills in preparation for the Junior Orchestra.

DANFORTH Location: Tuesdays 6:15-7:00pm (45 min)

Junior Orchestra

(RCM 2-4/Suzuki Book 2-3)

An orchestra environment introduces students to an ensemble setting where they are assigned parts, read from music and follow a conductor for expressive details such as dynamics, tempo, balance and cuing.

 

Students develop technical, creative and social skills through repertoire ranging from pop to classical, and are also introduced to composition and improvisation.

 

Young string players learn how to prepare repertoire at home to come to rehearsal prepared. 

BLOOR Location: Mondays 6:30-7:30pm (60 min)

DANFORTH Location: Tuesdays 7:15-8:00pm (45 min)

  • Tuition: $858

Intermediate Orchestra

(RCM 5-7/Suzuki Book 4-6)

The Intermediate Orchestra focuses on repertoire from the Baroque and Classical eras (Vivaldi, Bach, and Mozart) to contemporary and pop music, concentrating on the differences in performance and style.

 

Students build excellent critical listening skills, learn rehearsal techniques, and seasoned players are given opportunities to lead their sections

 

Parts are assigned in advance of the first rehearsal and students are expected to learn their music and listen to recordings by the first rehearsal.

BLOOR Location: Tuesdays 6:30-7:30pm (60 min)

DANFORTH Location: Tuesdays 8:00-9:00pm (60 min)

  • Tuition: $990

Adult Orchestra

Why should kids have all the fun? The Adult String Ensemble is a multi-level group that gives mature students the opportunity to hone their musical skills and relive childhood dreams.

 

Participants will play in multiple parts with other musicians. Parts will be assigned based on level of proficiency. At least 1 year of private lessons required to participate. An informal audition or teacher recommendation may be required to determine level.

DANFORTH Location: Thursdays 8:00-8:45pm (45 min)

Senior Orchestra

Senior Orchestra will not be offered during the 2022-2023 session.
