André McEvenue

Guitar/ Ukulele

André McEvenue is a guitar teacher, performer, and composer based in Toronto, Ontario. He holds a master's degree in music composition from Western University, and has studied classical guitar with some of Canada’s finest performers, including Sylvie Proulx and Philip Candelaria. In addition, André has performed and studied extensively on electric guitar, and instructs guitar and ukulele students across many styles and skill levels. As an instructor, André believes in fostering a love of music first. He helps his students discover and reach their goals with tools and insights he has accumulated from many years of teaching, training, performing, and writing.

As a composer, André has studied and worked with many contemporary music ensembles throughout his career, including Vaso String Quartet, Reverb Brass, The Array Music Ensemble, Backlined Electric guitar Quartet, and Quatuor Bozzini. He continues to write, perform, and collaborate in the creation of new works: ranging from string quartets to electric guitar, and everything in between.

André believes that every musical style and approach has something to learn from, whether it be folk, rock, indie, jazz, classical, pop, R&B, or experimental. Both his pedagogical approach and musical artistry reflect this, as they are both cultivated from diverse disciplines, and are always driven by the fundamental purpose of authentic musical expression.
