Hayley Janes

Violin

Toronto born and raised, Hayley began studying violin in her public school’s strings program. These formative years have left Hayley with a deep appreciation for the importance and benefit of music education in school, community, and private studio settings. Hayley went on to receive a Bachelor of Music with honors in music education from the University of Toronto, playing in the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and University of Toronto Concert Orchestra. During her undergraduate study, Hayley taught violin privately and furthered her professional development through Suzuki violin training and a workshop with violin pedagogue, Mimi Zweig. In addition to playing and teaching music, Hayley has a driving interest in music education research. Her award-winning master's thesis, completed while studying for a Master’s of Philosophy in Arts, Creativity, and Education at the University of Cambridge, marked the beginning of a commitment to creative and accessible approaches to research. Hayley is currently a PhD student at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto and enjoys combining her roles as a student, teacher, and musician.
