Gemma Donn

Violin

Gemma Donn is a violinist and composer based in Toronto, Ontario. Originally from Vancouver Island, Gemma started playing violin at age four. Gemma is a recent graduate of the University of Toronto, where she majored in violin performance and minored in biology. Her teachers include Mark Skazinetsky, Mark Fewer, and Annalee Patipatanakoon. During her time there, she performed with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Hart House Jazz Combo, and the SMC Troubadours pit band. She has also performed with the Chinese Arts Society of Toronto, the Greater Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra, the West Coast Symphony, Theatre Under the Stars Vancouver, Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra, North Bay Symphony Orchestra, Ontario Philharmonic Orchestra, and Counterpoint Community Orchestra where she currently serves as Concertmaster. Gemma has appeared as a soloist with the Strathcona Symphony Orchestra and the North Island Choral Society. Gemma is also a versatile composer, with works composed primarily for film. Her most recent project was the film score for Dad (2019), recently premiered at the 2019 Sarajevo Film Festival. Currently, Gemma works as a research assistant at the Artists’ Health Centre at the UHN and coordinator at Parkdale Community Food Bank. She is also the creator and founder of Songs in Self-Isolation, a COVID-19 initiative that brings virtual performances to hospital patients.
