Roanna Kitchen

Voice

Roanna Kitchen is a Canadian soprano recognized for her musical versatility and audience engagement. She recently completed her undergraduate degree in Voice Performance from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music and is currently completing her master’s degree at the same institution.
Roanna has performed various roles on stage. In 2021 Roanna performed the roles of Miss Robinson and Lady Appleby in The Shop Girl. Previously she has performed the roles of Iris in Semele, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance and Donna Marie in Blood Brothers. In 2022, Roanna looks forward to taking on the roles of Mentuhotep and Scout in Conan and the Stone of Kelior. She has appeared and soloed in concert works such as What’s New With You as part of the University of Toronto’s Vocalis Series (curated by Krisztina Szabó), Songs of Hope and Comfort as part of the University of Toronto’s Festival of Song, Handel’s Messiah and Dixit Dominus, A Celebration, A Child’s Prayer and Fauré’s Requiem. Roanna enjoys ensemble work and has performed with choirs such as the Schola Cantorum, U of T Women’s Chamber Choir and the Economical Choir. Roanna has also participated in multiple summer programs including St. Andrew’s Vocal Techniques Workshop, Opera Nuova’s 10 Day Development Program and the Summer Opera Lyric Theatre.
In addition to her love for music Roanna also became involved in film. After graduating from Mode Elle Model and Talent Agency and working with Catalyst TCM Inc. her credits have included the principal role of Elizabeth Ennen in the television show See No Evil, as well as commercials for Disney Cinderella Princess, Care Bears and Cabbage Patch Dolls.
Roanna presently studies with Frederique Vezina. In the past she has participated in masterclasses with Dame Emma Kirkby, Russell Braun, Nathalie Paulin, Wendy Neilson, Kimberly Barber and Dominique Labelle and has worked with conductors such as Daniel Taylor, Hilary Apfelstadt and Uri Mayer. She has been the recipient of multiple scholarships including the UofT Music Fellowship Award, Arthur Edward Redsell Scholarship, Lois Marshall Memorial Scholarship, Undergraduate Campaign Scholarship and the President's Entrance Scholarship.
Roanna is very excited to work with students and assist them in their vocal development and pursuit of excellence through the Lane School of Music! She was previously a voice teacher at Upbeat Piano Studio. Roanna aims to help students better understand the mechanics of their own instrument. She focuses on communicating in a way that resonates with students. She believes that by helping students develop a concrete understanding of voice technique it helps to establish a foundation that students can rely on. Roanna believes that this foundational knowledge assists students in their ability to be expressive musically. She is familiar with RCM and Full Voice Syllabuses and is comfortable working within both curriculums. Roanna also enjoys teaching multiple genres and styles including classical, jazz, pop and CCM.
Roanna looks forward to completing her degree at the University of Toronto and is excited to further explore the world of music education and its rewards.
