COVID Policies 2022-2023


Please note that these policies are subject to change.



All of our physical locations (2077a Danforth Avenue; 2489 Bloor Street West; 88 Laird Drive) are open for in-person lessons. We will be following safety precautions including social distancing and the use of face masks to ensure the safety of everyone in our buildings. These precautions include but are not limited to the following policies and procedures.



Everyone is expected to self-screen for COVID-19 prior to entering the building by asking the following questions:

  1. Are you experiencing any of the following new or worsening symptoms:

    1. Fever and/or chills (37.8°C/100°F or higher)

    2. Cough or barking cough (croup)

    3. Shortness of breath (out of breath, unable to breathe deeply)

    4. Sore throat

    5. Runny or stuffy/congested nose

    6. Decrease or loss of taste or smell

    7. Headache

    8. Digestive issues (nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, etc.)

    9. Muscle aches/joint pain

    10. Extreme tiredness

  2. In the last 14 days, have you travelled outside of Canada and been told to quarantine (per federal quarantine requirements?

  3. Has a doctor, health care provider, or public health unit told you that you should currently be isolating (staying at home)?

  4. In the last 10 days, have you tested positive for COVID-19?

  5. Do you currently live with someone who is isolating due to COVID-19 symptoms, a positive COVID-19 test, or is waiting for COVID-19 test results?

If you answer YES to any of the above questions, please follow provincial health guidelines and do NOT attend any in-person activities at The Lane School of Music.


Anyone who attends an in-person lesson or enters our buildings while exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 will be sent home. If you have to miss a lesson due to quarantine, symptoms, or exposure, please notify your teacher directly. If you notify your teacher with MORE than 24-hours’ notice, you will have the option to switch to online lessons until you are able to return to in-person lessons. 



  • Doorknobs, piano keys, and other surfaces will be wiped down regularly. 

  • Hand sanitizer will be readily available.

  • Our ventilation system has been upgraded and filters will be changed regularly.

  • When possible, windows and exterior doors will be open to increase air circulation.

  • Air purifiers have been placed throughout the building.



  • Everyone entering our buildings must wear a mask or face shield (children under 2 years of age are exempt).

    • If you have a health condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, please let us know by emailing staff at your location (see below for email addresses).

  • Continue observing social distancing (minimum 6 feet apart).

  • All studios are equipped with air purifiers.

  • Piano teachers will demonstrate on keyboards while students use acoustic pianos.

  • All studio surfaces will be sanitized between each lesson.

  • Ensemble capacities have been capped at 12 students for all classes.



  • All individuals in our waiting areas must be masked at all times (children under 2 years of age are exempt).

  • Food is not permitted in waiting areas.

  • Family members of students who are not attending a lesson (i.e. siblings, etc.) are discouraged from accompanying students to lessons.

  • Parents of young children may accompany their child to their lesson to assist.
